Amanda Spice is a serial backpacker and mother who, despite being old enough to know better, keeps donning the boots and backpack to travel the world with her husband and two young children.

​

Between the travels, which she loves, she posts to Instagram at travelswithspice and writes a retrospective, 'warts and all' travel blog at travelstories, where you can read all about her family adventures - the joys, frustrations, revelations, minutiae, planning, hard work, strokes of luck, inspirations, unforeseen help from others and unexpected funnies of travelling in unfamiliar lands ... particularly with kids in tow.

Although Amanda does not aspire to offer a comprehensive travel guide, she is very happy to share her travel tips and anecdotes to help you plan your own travels. You can find information and downloads at traveltips and more are planned to appear over time. If you wish to contact Amanda, she will also endeavour to pass on advice and suggestions gleaned from her own experiences of the countries she has visited.

In addition to her travels and writing, Amanda appreciates periods of settled home life and long-term endeavour as a counterpoint to the transience of the nomadic lifestyle. A highly trained, experienced physicist and project manager, she has, for the last 10 years (since having children), found a portfolio career to fit better alongside her travels. This has included running school science workshops and clubs, science and maths tutoring, offering consultancy advice to the Institute of Physics, and frequently volunteering in community projects and events.

Amanda enjoys camping, walking and staying fit, has started learning a musical instrument (why not?), takes a keen interest in environmental issues, loves learning on any topic whatsoever, and throws herself eagerly into everything life has to offer. She refuses to be pigeon-holed.
